How to...Shine this Christmas
If the thought alone of receiving a Christmas party invite brings you out in a cold sweat, then follow my top tips on how to’ Shine this Christmas’.
It doesn’t have to be black!
Who said it had to be a Little Black Dress? There are so many gorgeous rich colours around at the moment. Go for a berry, purple, plum, turquoise, red, emerald green or electric blue. Monsoon has a gorgeous selection of colourful dresses at under £69.
Stun in Sparkles
Make a statement in this season's must-have eye-catching embellishments and shimmering sequins. If an all-over sequin dress is not for you, dazzle with your accessories instead. Keep your outfit simple and really go for it with a stunning necklace or earrings and a cuff. This way you are also much less likely to bump into someone wearing the same thing. M&S have a wide selection of fashion jewellery and sequin clutch bags.
Get your Make-up right
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; wearing colours that flatter near your face makes a world of difference. This is even more apparent with what you put ON your face. Yes, make sure your foundation is a match, but just as importantly your blusher and lip colour should be in a tone that complements your colouring.
Stylishly disguise your upper arms
I hate to admit it but I need to get to the gym and work on my bingo wings! Luckily no-one would ever know because I can dress to disguise the parts of my body I would rather not let the rest of the world see. Keep warm whilst cleverly disguising your upper arms with a shrug or shawl. Monsoon always has a selection of boleros and shrugs to layer over your party wear. Go for a ¾ length sleeve to draw the eye down to the slimmest part of your arm.
Perfect Pins
Legs always look better in tights and nude tights are like foundation for legs. Apparently flesh-coloured tights are making a huge comeback thanks to the Duchess of Cambridge. John Lewis 7 Barely There (£5 a pair) give a very natural look.
Chic Comfort
Palazzo trousers happen to not only look chic but are extremely comfortable, perfect for saying yes to that extra mince pie. Try wearing them with a sparkly top and satin ballet pump.
Christmas Wrapped Up
Are you looking for a unique and personalised gift for your favourite female? Why not give the gift of confidence and style. If you know of anyone who would love a Colour Consultation, Style Solutions or a Wardrobe Weedout, call or email me to find out about my Gift Packages.
Dazzle this festive season!

Look Hot when it’s Cold Outside....Coat Do's and Don'ts

Did you know that, on average, we live in our coats for 210 days of the year (that’s October to April)? It is also more than half the year! For this reason, I put having the right coat at the top of my list of things to own during the winter months.
Do get the length right
Most women look best in a knee-length coat – no longer. Long coats keep reappearing as a trend but you will miss out on the chance to show your legs. Showing your legs elongates you.
Do get the fit right
A boxy, shapeless coat will make you look bigger than you are. Go for a shaped-waist coat that will celebrate and show off your shape. Choose a coat that fits your widest part and your smallest part too. Have it altered if need be.
Do get the colour right
Who says that your coat needs to be black? Why not enjoy the psychological lift that colour can bring. Keep it darker to remain slimming but think outside the box with: charcoal, plum, mustard, teal or red.
Don’ts for your coat
• Don’t wear a coat that pulls across the bust • Don’t add bulk with a thick puffer coat • Don’t have too many extra details e.g. epaulettes will highlight broad shoulders, wide lapels and big button that draw attention to a large bust. • Don’t wear belted jumpers under a belted coat.
Spending out on a special coat is a wise buy because it dresses up what you already own. A fashion coat doesn’t just make your outfit; it IS your outfit. So, if you buy just one thing this autumn, get yourself a coat that wows!

How to Wear....Tangerine
One of the questions I often get asked during a Colour Consultation is how to wear an 'in' colour even if it doesn't suit you. It is of course my job to know what is on-trend, but it is also important to me personally to understand how I too can wear the 'in' colours and still look good! Let's take one of this season's hot colours..Tangerine!
(Vogue Trends Spring/Summer 2011)
Orange is a very difficult colour to wear if, like me, you have cool colouring! But it's simple - the best way to add a trend colour is through your accessories. It adds a WOW punch without costing the earth. Please do NOT spend a fortune on a colour that doesn't suit you! Once the trend is over you can take it to the charity shop!!

Try adding:
- Shoes
- Bangles/bracelets
- Necklace...make sure it's long or at least mixed with colours that DO suit you.
- Belt
- Handbag
- Purse
- Ring
- Nail varnish
- Umbrella
- Phone cover...this one was meant to be a joke, but who am I to stop you ;0)
(Me as a bridesmaid with our accent colour...orange! I still adore that umbrella.)
So, what is the colour you wish you could introduce to your wardrobe?

Be a Savvy Shopper - Shop Smarter Tips
Regardless of whether you are someone who loathes shopping or it's your favourite pastime, these ‘Shop Smarter Tips’ will enable to you build a better wardrobe whilst ultimately spending less time and wasting less money.
Plan of Action Sort through your wardrobe and make a list of any missing ‘key items’. This will help you keep focussed on what you need rather than impulse buying.
Dress for the Occasion If you have specifics in mind, then ensure you are wearing (or at least bring along) the undergarments and correct shoes for the items you are looking for. Otherwise, wear easy on/off clothes.
Walk the Walk Try it on. Walk, sit, bend in the clothes. Do they move easily? Are the seams pulling? Do zips, buttons, etc. all function properly?
Mirror, mirror... Use the three-way mirror. Bear in mind that some items can look fantastic from the front but are a totally different story from the back. Never buy trousers or jeans without checking out all the view!
Check the Returns Policy If you are buying a sale item then do check if you can return it or not. Avoid anything that you can only get store credit for unless it is a shop you know you will want to buy from again in the future.
Perfect Fit Never buy anything that doesn't fit perfectly. The only exceptions are trousers/skirts that can be easily altered for length at the hem.
Bag a Bargain This is my final but most important tip. Remember - it's not a bargain (even at 90% off) unless you actually have some way of working it into your existing wardrobe. Otherwise, step away from that rail!
Happy Hunting! Emma x
