Look Hot when it’s Cold Outside....Coat Do's and Don'ts

Did you know that, on average, we live in our coats for 210 days of the year (that’s October to April)? It is also more than half the year! For this reason, I put having the right coat at the top of my list of things to own during the winter months.
Do get the length right
Most women look best in a knee-length coat – no longer. Long coats keep reappearing as a trend but you will miss out on the chance to show your legs. Showing your legs elongates you.
Do get the fit right
A boxy, shapeless coat will make you look bigger than you are. Go for a shaped-waist coat that will celebrate and show off your shape. Choose a coat that fits your widest part and your smallest part too. Have it altered if need be.
Do get the colour right
Who says that your coat needs to be black? Why not enjoy the psychological lift that colour can bring. Keep it darker to remain slimming but think outside the box with: charcoal, plum, mustard, teal or red.
Don’ts for your coat
• Don’t wear a coat that pulls across the bust • Don’t add bulk with a thick puffer coat • Don’t have too many extra details e.g. epaulettes will highlight broad shoulders, wide lapels and big button that draw attention to a large bust. • Don’t wear belted jumpers under a belted coat.
Spending out on a special coat is a wise buy because it dresses up what you already own. A fashion coat doesn’t just make your outfit; it IS your outfit. So, if you buy just one thing this autumn, get yourself a coat that wows!
